Well Guys and Gals , The tunisian Jerkass is finally back ! WITH A FUCKING VENGEANCE ! Of course proper music is mandatory www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF6k0e…

Time for us to talk about one of my favorite mangas (that I was too lazy to talk about last time . God , can I be sloppy when it comes to write stuff...): HELLSING . And by that I mean BOTH manga and TV series. Seriously I am disgusted by all the crap that gets thrown at the latter . It didn't follow the manga ? Well bouhouhou ... it still managed to give me something worth my time and money , and it has aspects the manga definitely lacks :D . Most purists can get so fucking grating , don't you think ? ...
For those who just joined the  course , here is the main plot : The story revolves around an extremely powerful vampire named Alucard, used by the Hellsing organization, to destroy less refined vampires that actively threaten and attack the mortal populace in Britain. While the short TV series stays within the bounds of a classic and bleak horror story , the Manga starts with the horror angle then switches it to a violent over-the-top war between Hellsing , the Vatican and NAZIS !

So let us start with the comparison between both in general XD

Since the OVAs follow the manga story to a T, I will talk about them both at the same time . Graphically speaking , the actions scenes are top notch : fast-paced , brutal and violent .Yeah there is the use of 3D effects here and there(IT'S A STUPID GIMMICK AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT !) Which only bogs down the first OVA . Other OVAs don't have much of that problem fortunately as the conflicts get bigger with each one . However , my problem with Hirano's style is that he gets in trouble when he tries to be funny in-story . Yes the Superdeformed stuff that I wish they didn't put into the OVAs , but they did and those moments are so fucking annoying (it really made a lot of scenes with Seras a pain to sit through ... I can't be the only one who thinks that !)! Even if I ignore my preference for the TV designs of the characters , the grimaces in the OVAs end up affecting some of these scenes impacts, not to mention I am not much a fan of the . The huge levels of gore are impressive and all , but when they are overkill , they end up being hilarious rather than horrific (you move from horror to Peter Jackson material . And that equals hilarity ! And an advice to all colorists : If you wanna color blood , make it a dark shade of red . A really dark shade of red , or else it looks like Ketchup or kool aid. )

The TV series , to its credit , goes at a steady pace and NEVER goes away from its dark serious atmosphere . It has a more cohesive gloom and is definitely more subtle than the manga .The animation is OK, but there is sometimes a lack in detail that can make it blandish . The action is a bit slower than the OVAs too. However the chara-designs are definitely an improvement , I dare say that humans LOOK HUMAN and don't have annoying mugshots , but truly freaky ones . The music is simply a fucking treat to listen to (heh I remember being pissed that they didn't keep that opening for the OVAs!)  And thank god NO COMIC RELIEF !

To their credit though ,the same voice actors from the TV series came back to work on Helling Ultimate.(The new Hunter X Hunter really SUFFERED because of that !). Both Japanese and english version are great to listen to , so no problem here .

The biggest difference aside from the genre of story , is the character focus.
The Manga ends up being Alucard's story while the TV series focuses more on Seras and Integra . But how do they hold for me ? Since you've made it this far let the blood orgy begin !

Alucard
A notorious and powerful vampire, he serves as the Hellsing Organization's most powerful operative, vampire expert and its "trump card". He is in fact the best version of Dracula I've encountered in any medium of fiction . Now both versions have virtually the same guy but they insist on different aspects of the vampire . The manga Alucard is hammier and gets more massacres, but he is closer to the romantic Dracula you find in movies (he declares his respect towards human determination) . We get to see him saddened or truly vulnerable against his own immortality. But more importantly his tragic backstory and how he did end up being a vampire  are explored (Now some say the less is more, but the manga as I said is about Alucard). TV Alucard , on the other hand , shows the bleaker, more sadistic aspects of the no-life king. In that regard he is an improved version of the Stoker Dracula . He cares a lot about Integra (Getting horribly angry when her life was truly at stake), but he is more of a sly bastard who loves testing her by asking her somewhat assholish questions (He only does this once in the manga ). His respect towards humans is more implicit in the sense that one must EARN said respect and he loves the fuck out of being a vampire .
VERDICT ; Tie (Both complete each other , and how can you say no to this smooth daddy api.ning.com/files/t0UCpa02W81…  )

Integra Hellsing

A descendant of Abraham Van Helsing and the Bureau Director of the Hellsing Organization. Integra is the only one who could command the respect and loyalty of Alucard. I will say this out loud: I prefered TV Integra . Not only she looks better (Seriously , she looks very fine here )(but a true badass is one who does not give up when the deck is stacked against them . In the manga ,I never felt she was that much endangered and got only hurt in the very end of the story . Besides showing actual did never diminish her badassery , so that is something to be admired . But see for yourself  a true character defining moment www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMuVBl…
VERDICT: TV

Seras Victoria

Okay I will be honest here . I can't stand her in the first OVAs . She gets way too much silly moments that are really annoying , which make her more of a big-tittied buffoon than an actual character . We have to wait until she gets her fight against Zorin Blitz so that she starts showing her true depth (and let us say that it ain't for the faint of heart . It is the one moment the OVAs become as gloomy as the TV series or finds the right tone ) .
With TV Seras , I never had any problem . She was a much more believable and down to earth character, it was nice to see her endure the situation of ...well... becoming a fucking Vampire ! Not to mention that I find her actually cute while Manga Seras accepts that situation way too quickly and has a forced cuteness. I preferred seeing  her struggle rather than PAFF  , KILL ENEMIES YADADDADADA . The transition was more believable in the TV series , but the abilities she gains in the manga are great too . So ...
VERDICT : Tie

Walter C. Dornez

Walter is a 69-year-old retired member of the Hellsing Organization who serves as Integra's butler, only revealing his true capabilities as the 'Angel of Death' and ex-Hellsing 'trashman' in times of need. Well manga definitely ... 3 words; Black shirt duel
VERDICT ; Manga

Alexander Anderson
A warrior priest or paladin who works for the Vatican Section XIII, Iscariot. Anderson is Iscariot's ultimate weapon in the fight against the undead. With regenerative capabilities, and a variety of holy weapons .Same as Walter , while the TV series gives him cool moments , he truly hits his stride in the manga story.
VERDICT; Manga

Yeah there are others , but I feel that they are at the same  level anyhow . However I will finish by saying this :
Am I the only one who feels that Incognito is an incredibly underrated monster ? I think purists attack him because he is TV exclusive but come the fuck on ! That guy has a failry unique design , is an actually creepy monster and actually gave Alucard a challenge in an epic fight !(Not to mention that his sorcery is a treat to watch !)
He is more competent than a good chunk of Millenium agents . (Seriously fan-favorite Rip Van Winkle was a mere steak on legs ! Alucard could have pretty much attacked her with a fork and a meat knife and it would have made more sense ... Alhambra was fun and all , but did you really think he had a chance ? Even the man in black despite some cool moves was in trouble rather quickly ... Seriously only the Captain and the holy monster are on the same level as Incognito . And even then, Millenium is more hinted at than truly absent from the TV series ;) ... )

Those are my thoughts . So What are your reactions , My dear public ? AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAA !  www.youtube.com/watch?v=klfquP…

My opinions:

Alucard

Even tho I like this series I always found the idea of making Dracula a protaganist a bit strange. I am definitly gonna go with the manga version since the TV version is way to gentle to the point were he almost comes of as a straight up good guy.
Verdict/Manga

Integra Hellsing

Kinda tough choice here since one of the problem with making Integra more self discipline and more religious is that here affection for Alucard seem much less justified. Also in universe Bram Stokers original novel is an actuall recording of true events so I don't really get how she can love somebody who feeds his harem with babies. I am gonna go with the more juvenile jet older looking Integra on this one.
Verdict/Manga

Seras Victoria

This is the only character who has any character development in both the manga and the TV series so I really don't see why so many people hate her. However because of her awesome fight between her and the Captein I am gonna go with the Manga version.
Vedict/Manga

Walter C. Dornez

Walter is like a really awesome playable character in a video game who's abilities are really cool or a really awesome toy with a fantastic gimmick. I can't bring myself to care about him as a character but those strings that he uses are a really awesome and a unique weapon. I am gonna go with the manga version just because of his ''final form'' but I will say this, dark Walter destroying buildings with his strings was allot more awesome in the manga then the OVA adaptation since in the OVA he just sort of slided the buildings in half while in the manga I remember him sweeping them of the ground like paper castles.
Vedict/Manga

Alexander Anderson

I am gonna go with the manga version here. Not because he turn into Bushroot at the end but because of his relationship with Maxwell. This might seem strange but their tragic impulsive son and disapointed strict father relationship was actually for me more interesting then Integras and Alucards little twillight relationship.
Verdict/Manga

As for the villains well this is a tough ones again eispecially since despite the TV series being allot less gory the TV series villains were actually ALLOT more creepy. Infact the millenium crew were pretty much the Joker henchmen from the Dark knight and Greg Ruckas Gotham central series as they pretty much followed the Major as the fools that they were then they all got quickly disposed off as soon they were no longer usefull to the main bad guy. You might even say that next to the civilians of London they were the biggest victims of the Majors malaise(aside from Shroedinger). The TV series bad guy don't just drink their victims blood but straight up eat them two of them act extremly perverse towards the two main heroins and they turn SWAT teams into bat monsters(the closest the millenium organization came to do anything like that was bribing the Mexican police force to attack Sera and Alucard also virgin blood sacrifies is way more scary then a mad doctor playing God(or in this case the devil) with vampire electronic chips.

I think I might still give this one to the manga but not because of millenium but because of Maxwell he was a great villain in the manga/OVA.
Verdict/Manga

But that is just my opinion.
