Well.... [link]
You read that post ? GOOD ! Now it is time to dive into case of Bob Clampett and celebrate his 100th anniversary !

And what better way to celebrate his 100th anniversary but with some of his best work !
So get ready for Fosteresque epics, McKimsonian drawings, Scribneresque energy,Jimmy Durante gags, suicides, pinballs and "4F"s.It was rather easy to make this top 20 to be honest, we all know that by the 40's Clampett lost no time in becoming excellent :) .
Is this trip really necessary? No. but I love to pad my texts baybay ! Let's go !

20 EATIN' ON THE CUFF OR THE MOTH WHO CAME TO DINNER (1942)

Ain't that one long title !
A male moth (who I suspect to work for the clothing industry due to making so many men daily buy new trousers...) is preparing to marry a female bee, when a sinisterly widow spider interferes to get our virile insect ... Is he doomed ? Neeeeh, Now I wouldn't say that.

19 BUCKAROO BUGS (1944)

Bugs Bunny in full bastard mode ! And delightfully so !
Due to all the ravages the dastardly lagomorph is causing to the plantations, "competent" law enforcers have been sent to get him. The rest is Red Hot Ryder VS Bugs Bunny ...Ladies and Gents , Place your bets !

18 PORKY AND DAFFY (1938)

Daffy Duck IS Rocky Balboa ! He has the eye of the oyster and the common sense of a Dali painting !

17 COAL BLACK AND DE SEBBEN DWARFS (1943)

If you're shocked that this is on this list well get out. It is a product of its time and I take it as it is , simple as that . Though yes, this kind of parody will be perfected in comics like Asterix or the entire oeuvre of Gotlib (but this is another topic ;) )
For those who don't know this is Clampett's parody of Snow White and his tribute to black culture at the time.Check it out and cultivate yourselves on 40's cartoons ! And remember 2 things :
- You will never fucking censor history !
- The world is senseless, incorrect and shocking , and there isn't a damn thing you'll do to change that !

16 WISE QUACKS (1939)

Porky is invited to celebrate the hatching of Daffy's children. Daffy, responsible avian that he is, praises the event by hitting the boose hard (and who said these cartoons were unrealistic ?). But VULTURES ARRIVE ! AAAAAAAHHHH !

15 HORTON HATCHES THE EGG (1942) / AN ITCH IN TIME (1943)

- Easily Clampett's most heartwarming and cutest short . Horton the elephant agrees to watch over Maisie's egg while she vacations (bitch...). The poor elephant will guard the egg on that nest, mocked, rained on, sick and then captured by hunters...BUT his efforts will be rewarded ! And remember , true parenting is not about conceiving the child but MOLDING and RAISING IT !

- A mutant hillbilly flea with herculean strength will get to devour Elmer and his dog .... because they were around the corner, for the most part .

14 TORTOISE WINS BY A HARE (1943)

Ah Bugs, ever the control freak aren't ya ? You really hate being on the receiving end don't ya ? Well folks , if you wanna beat the rabbit , be zen ... like the tortoise. Licking his wounds after Tex Avery's "Tortoise beats hare" , Bugs decides to dress as Cecil in order to defeat the chelonian and restore the honor of the lagomorphs... but he should have told the rabbit maffia beforehand, just saying ...

13 DRAFTEE DAFFY (1945)

Daffy starts his day by having a surge of patriotism. However , when the draft board calls to say they are bringing him a notice, our mallard starts singing a different tune ... and from that point on , he will have to escape that creepy little man from the draft board to anywhere ! EVEN HELL IS BETTER THAN BEING DRAFTED !

12 WAGON HEELS (1945)

Porky fights a fella known as Injun Joe The Superchief (WOOWOO !). Who is Injun Joe ? Easily the picture you'd have to describe the word BADASS in the dictionary ! He shatters mountains , belittles bears (LITERALLY !) and is a one man army on a toy-horse ! Even when defeated , he takes his entire territory with HIM ! That my friends is exquisite HARDCORENESS !

11 WISE QUACKING DUCK (1943)

Mr. Meek is sent by Sweety Puss to kill a duck for dinner. Of course , he had to pick the only one that is chaotic and sadistic ! After escaping the hatchet (and gruesomely so ! No?), Daffy will have the entire day for himself to torment the guy through tea, skull-bashing and strip-tease ...

10 BASHFUL BUZZARD (1945)

Beaky ...oh I'm sorry ... "Killer" Buzzard is sent to bring home something to eat by mama Buzzard . While his brothers fetch the entire continent fauna for dinner, Bea...Killer has more than his share of problems until meeting something smaller...OR IS IT ?

9 A GRUESOME TWOSOME (1945)

Two cats (one of them being feline Jimmy Durante) battle violently for the affections of a pretty girl cat, who'll dispense her favors on the one who brings her a little bird. Unfortunately for the poor devils, the bird in question is ... Some appropriate music for Clampett's personal hellspawn [link] , thank you... HIM -> [link] AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH !!!

8 OLD GRAY HARE (1945)

Our story starts with a bawling Elmer Fudd, exasperated at the repetitive futility of his life. His needs are simple, he just wants to kill one rabbit ! (Okay look Elmer, why not try a new hobby ! Seriously dude , you will only defeat Bugs once and it's through Daffy's lust for a TV set.... maybe I said too much .)
Thus fate takes him to the future in 2000 (well of course !) . He even gets to zap the lumbago-ridden Bugs Bunny, leading to his own pruneface's burial !

7 FALLING HARE (1943)

Also known as Bugs can't handle Gizzmo (don't hand him any mogwai any soon !)! So the best ways to defeat the rabbit is to send a gremlin and he's done for (take notes, class !).

6 GREAT PIGGY BANK ROBBERY (1946)

Not only does this prove that Daffy doesn't need any co-stars or straightmen to be funny (whoever says otherwise needs a nice punch in the nose and fast !) , but also how injectable a character the duck is. This is the cartoon that kickstarted Daffy's absolute best asset : Parody. From this point on, he will get enough acting range to fit in just about any story (or distort it in his own way ... And HAMMILY might I add ! ) and STILL be hilarious.

5 RUSSIAN RHAPSODY (1944)

Any cartoon that has any dictator getting bashed and buried is worth it ! And this is no exception. And we see how the "best pilot of the reiccchhhh " (heh, gros connard oui !) will fare against the Gremlins from the Kremlin .

4 PORKY IN WACKYLAND (1938)

A lot of people say that Porky is one of the least interesting of the Looney Tunes... and that is flat out wrong (Yes even a maestro like Frank Tashlin can be wrong kids !). The Pig is an essential character and easily the ultimate straight man. Whenever there is chaos, you need an anchor to give the madness some focus .
Now let us throw our little pal in a world that seems to be in constant acid-trip and make him chase a Dodo with a parasol on his head ... and you get a masterpiece of animation. I guess the most restrained of characters works really well with the wackiest of directors !

3 KITTY KORNERED (1946)

It's evening and people are putting out their cats for the night. However the only shmuck who won't be able to do so is our friend Porky, for he will encounter the feline revolution, as Sylvester eloquently puts it :
"Brother pussycats! We've been skidded out, scooted out, backed out and booted out! But tonight, we was scared out! It's unhospitabitatble, and furthermore, it's un-cat-stitutional! ARE WE MEN OR AAARRE WE MITHE !"

2 BOOK REVUE (1946)

What's the plot here ? Well, taking on the old "book covers come to life" formula and perfect it by injecting it with a "Daffy Kaye playing a homesick Russian gypsy "... simple as that !

HONORABLE MENTIONS :
Porky in Egypt (1938) The Daffy Doc (1938) Scalp Trouble (1939) Prehistoric Porky (1940) The Henpecked Duck (1941) Wabbit Twouble (1941) The Wacky Wabbit (1942) Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid (1942) Tick Tock Tuckered (1944) Hare Ribbin' (1944) Birdy and the Beast (1944) ...

1 CORNY CONCERTO (1943)

And for Clampett's number 1 ! Written by the great Frank Tashlin and animated by the stupendous Robert McKimson (and yes we will get to them !).
Not only is this short hilarious, but it is also the perfect fusion of 2 great arts ... All the moments are great, from Elmer's struggles with his Tuxedo, Porky and the pointer dog sobbing at Bugs's "death", and baby Daffy duckling killing a buzzard . All of this is beautifully fluid and wacky animation !

Well , I guess that is enough for today !
Allahi yarhmik Bob and a thousand thanks for the laughs !
For now, that's all Folks ... Now , who will be next ?
